I forgot my pleather jumpsuit at home

Have you guys seen that Eddie Murphy skit where he's in the red pleather jumpsuit, swaying back & forth singing "I got icecream, I got icecream"?

Nod and smile. (if you haven't, here -watch! One of my absolute favorite stand-up skits)

Well, that was me in my kitchen yesterday. Except I was singing "I got candlessss, I got candles". At this point, I sometimes write something, then sit back and reread... and truly wonder why anyone reads this blog... I'm seriously weird you guys.

Anyways back to the story. Supposedly it's some big joke, that you don't buy people candles unless you don't like them. I don't get it? As if it's some cop out gift? Maybe it's just because I haven't even lived on my own for a full year so I haven't built up an arsenal of flammable wax and still welcome candles with open arms?

Regardless, I get super excited over candles... especially if they smell really good... and double especially if the came from a blog friend!

Hence why I was dancing around my kitchen singing some silly little ditty. This is getting embarrassing... I'm just going to end the story now and show you pictures of what else Holly sent to me.

Super soft Colts blue shirt-check. Pretty nail polishes - check. Candles - check. Hot pink scarf - check. Adorably simple earrings - check. And to top it off a cute lil note on pink paper.
She's a pretty awesome swap partner. Ya'll should be jealous.

Thanks Caroline, Molly & Mateya for hosting!  to I got candles ;)

Bad luck Betty, and mama saves the day

I broke my coffee pot last Friday morning. Completely shattered. All across my kitchen floor. While I was barefoot.

Apparently there's some force in the universe that beckons me to lose my grip on coffee pots when I am enduring a breakup. Because the same thing happened in early spring after the Chris breakup. And yes, both resulted in me blubbering on the kitchen floor, because what else are you supposed to do in this situation?!

That means I will soon have to purchase coffee pot number three.I haven't even lived in my house for a full 10 months yet!! Good lord someone find me a good man, because Mr. Coffee can't take much more!

Anyways, my mom is sort of awesome... and Saturday morning on her way to work (she's a hairstylist so she works Saturdays - ew right?!) she left a happy little container of fresh brewed coffee on my side porch, and texted me letting me know it was there for when I woke up.

Is she not the sweetest?! Plus she pulls really awesome things out of dumpsters for me too.
(My momma & I in Jamaica)

I love her!

(And yes, that is a metal rooster... it's not quite 6ft but I do laugh and think of Beyonce every time I pass by it)

Turning of the page

Guess it's inevitable that I would eventually have to update you all on the Scott story.

I've been debating on how to post this, where to take it, to what extremes and depths but then I stumbled upon that quote above last night and it sorta answered my question for me. The past is the past, and that's where it should remain if we want to move forward.

I will say this however. I know who I am, and what I want out of life. I will never let someone tell me that I don't deserve "some fairytale life" when all I'm simply asking for is respect and dedication.

I will not let someone talk down to me, as if my feelings and thoughts do not matter.

And I will not hang on to someone who so easily tries to turn the tables and point the finger.

So, all this to say that chapter is over. And I am ok with that. I know that I did what my heart was telling me, and I tried Unfortunately, things don't always pan out like you imagine, but I got the closure I needed out of it and have cut ties.

23 going on 65

Not to toot my horn or anything but you are in the presence of greatness right now.

That's right...

I waltzed outta the bingo hall Sunday evening with 250 extra buckaroos in my pocket.

Quilting, knitting, antiquing, now bingo. I truly excel at hobbies aimed towards bluehairs.

Next up - shuffleboard.

Sometimes

Sometimes you wake up to a whimpering dog, begging to be let out... stumble down the stairs, opening your eyes only enough to make sure you're actually catching the steps with your feet as to avoid a complete tumble.

Sometimes as soon as the dog has cleared the threshold of the door, you climb (literally, hands on the steps) back up the stairs & quickly retreat back to the perfectly formed cocoon under the sheets and quilt.

Sometimes you collapse back into dreamland so quickly, you don't even think about the fact that you're dog's still outside in the frosty cold and your supposed to be leaving any minute now to go to your parents for Sunday Morning Breakfast, the family tradition that started nearly 10 years ago.

Sometimes when you snap up, suddenly awaken by a barking dog (your barking dog of course) and realize it's already 9:23, you manage to get dressed quicker than you ever have.

Sometimes when your half-frozen dog decides pouncing at the door, but running away when you open it is a SUPER fun game because you aren't in a hurry or anything, you get annoyed.

Sometimes you chase your dog around the yard just so you can catch him and physically carry him into the house.

Sometimes you are in such a rush you run out the side door, locking it behind you only to realize as soon as you hit the porch that your car keys are sitting on the counter on the other side of that locked door.

Sometimes your house keys also share a key ring with your car keys.

Sometimes, even at the age of 23, after living in your house for 9 months... you still have to suck up your pride, call your parents house and ask if someone can bring a spare key and come let you back into your own home.

And sometimes, you remember why they say you should always hide a spare key somewhere outside your home. Because sometimes, even the most responsible of folks do some really, really silly things.

But most of the time, a big helping of homemade biscuits & gravy and some banter with your papaw and your parents make all those 'sometimes' worth it.
