myth vs reality.

Every year in Indy we host an event that causes hundreds of women to flock to our city center, perked, plumped & ready to mingle....

The Firefighters Convention.

Thousands of firefighters venture to our great city for a weekend of... well, really, hell if I know... conventioning.

I know what you're thinking...

So my girlfriends and I headed downtown on Friday night for tapas, cocktails, and debauchery. After a homeless man hobbled into the restaurant, plopped himself down on a barstool right next to our table and passed out/died (? who really knows), we weren't sure how the rest of the night was going to unfold. However a few of the paramedics who rushed to his aid weren't bad eye-candy so we couldn't be all that mad.

Sadly, as the night progressed we realized there was not a single oiled up man in sight. No eight-packs, no bare chests, no shirtless, suspendered men saving kittens.

All we got was a group of hicks from North Carolina who swarmed our patio table telling us they "saw all us ladies long hairs and just had to stop and say hi" in the slowest southern drawl I've ever heard.

You win some, you lose some.

Moonshine Jungle

Had a little family bonding time in the moonshine jungle last night!

My cousin got us suite passes to Bruno Mars, so us girls rushed out of work and headed downtown for dinner and drinks followed by a night of booty shaking!

He honestly put on one of the best shows I have seen in a while. I always forget how many songs he's had out. It was so much fun, and his band is AWESOME! They never stood still, and the audience never sat down.

Not to mention Bruno himself is cute as heck. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for the next time he comes in town

Behind the wall.

Despite my rendezvouses with the porcelain bowl lately, life's been far from doom & gloom.

I checked another gem off my hypothetical nonexistent bucket list and watched a NASCAR race from the pits.

Friend of a friend (the best kind of stories always start this way, no?) owns a team and invited us along for a weekend of up close and personal racing fun. Well, twist my arm.

Needless to say, as I was sitting in the ER Saturday afternoon, a tiny (huge) part of me was hoping they would release me so I could still go to the race Sunday.

The ER doc heard my wishes and Sunday morning I walked through these pearly gates. It was a pretty cool experience all around. I've been in the garages and pits, but always returned to the grandstands for the actual race.

Never have I gotten to listen to the national anthem or watch the flyover while standing on the track.

Never have I been able to watch the green flag drop while in the pit lane wall.

Never have I witnessed a pit stop from 6 feet away while leaning up against a stack of tires. I've also never had that much fun at the Brickyard. Anyone who has been knows it's a pretty boring race, so seeing it from a different point of view in the pits spiced it up a bit.

I'd also like to think our driver had the best tuxedo racing suit I've ever seen, hands down!

Another year, another Kenny in the books

I can't recall the last summer that didn't involve a Kenny concert. What do you say about a Kenny concert? They're always a good time, that's a given. So we'll just let this be a photojournalastic approach. (I'll go ahead and acknowledge that I have the most gorgeous friends, hands down)

This post could also be titled: the time I rerouted an oncoming migraine with 3 sequential shots of Jack.

Memorial'izing.

Memorial Day always seems to have a way of snapping life back on track.

A few months past the popped lung, single again, and an open agenda led me into the long weekend this year.

With some of my best girlfriends at my side, we embarked on Indianapolis during the weekend of the "greatest spectacle in racing".

New friends were made, cocktails were enjoyed, parties were thrown, shenanigans were had.
It was seriously the most I have laughed in months. I was genuinely having the kind of carefree fun I had been lacking for far too long.

And as I laid my head down on the pillow last night, I just smiled. Because at that point, everything in my life was exactly as it was supposed to be.

Tip it Back

LT and I have this thing where we get excited about non-mainstream country singers and immediately make the other listen to a song when we stumble upon it and deem it great...

Well early on in the summer his flavor of the month was some band called Florida-Georgia Line. (Hah, hilarious saying that now since they've skyrocketed on the charts lately)

Lo and behold I OBVIOUSLY fell in love with them and immediately made all my friends listen. And when we heard they were going to be playing at the Tin Roof in Indy a bunch of us scooped up the $5 tickets.

Casey and I went there immediately after work (because we're nerdy like that) and got to see the guys of FGL setting up the stage and just hanging out, we had some drinks and waited for the rest of the gang to arrive.

(of course we had to carry on the tradition of the Summer of Pabst)

Easily one of the funnest concerts I've ever been to. I can't tell you how many times I've listened to their like 8 songs on repeat. I can't wait for their actual CD to come out in early December!

Adventures in Mustache Riding

A few months back the little tweettweet bird popped up on my phone to tell me that a "Mustache Rides Indy" was now following me. A local taxi company. That gives you mustaches to wear.

Obviously, I realized that was undoubtedly the best business venture I had heard of in a long time, and pledged to take a mustache ride. The sooner the better.

Fast forward to the Jason Aldean & Luke Bryan concert last weekend. 9 of us stood in my driveway lugging coolers onto the Bus'tache.

It was a blast. Nobody had to worry about being DD, we could get up and dance, goof off, enjoy a few libations, all whilst being escorted by a dashing driver who had a handlebar mustache any post-pubescent boy would envy

(Yes, those are tiny party hats on our head complete with various Luke and Jason lyrics)

I won't even waste my time telling you how great the concert was. Duh - that's a given. Two of the hottest men in country music on one stage. Me-ow.

It's safe to assume we will be taking a bustache to every concert and event from now on.

Apply Within.

I stumbled upon this (literally) as we were walking to Scotty's after the Colts game yesterday. My heart giddy-upped when I stopped to read it, and I had a renewed sense of love for this silly city I live in!

Team BrownChickenBrownCow

Indy hosted their ColorRun this past weekend. The only way you will every convince me to participate in something with the word RUN in the title is to lure me in with bright colors.

Three of my girlfriends from high school and myself signed up, under the surname of Team BrownChickenBrownCow.

In an effort to not be like every other person I've seen in ColorRun pictures, my team chose to wear toga's.

And while there were more tutu's than I could have ever imagined, the toga's were unique and a huge hit!

We had a blast, we just walked & talked the whole time but there were a lot of hardcore runners.

The volunteers at almost all the color stations were grumpy and not much fun so we resorted to things like dancing our way through the stations, snow angels in the powder on the street, and having our own color fights.

And of course, I'll leave you with the quintessential jumping picture. Because really, what is ANY event without a jumping photo.
