Meet Oro!

He's a quirky little fellow. I picked him up Saturday afternoon and had a first panic attack when he lept out of my shopping cart and I had to chase him through the store!

Silly little guy. He loves to run, yet when I let him out in my (fenced in) back yard, he refuses to go out there unless you go with him... but by golly if you open the front door he's off like a bullet (we learned this the hard way!)

He loves a good ear scratch and any kind of attention, and he LOVES to play fetch!

See that blue Bebo dog in the background? He's already gotten to the stuffing inside of it... He loves to run in laps around the house shaking it around violently. I think he'll be more of a rubber/kong toy type of dog, not a stuffed animal lover!

He also doesn't seem to know his name. Have you ever adopted a dog? Are you allowed to 'change' their name? Not that there's anything wrong with his name being "Oro" but I am beginning to wonder if it's too close to "no" and he's getting confused... thoughts??

I personally think he looks more like a Frederick, or a Glenn or a Russell?

We changed our dog's name when we adopted him, but he was only 3 months old so I didn't think it made a difference. I ended up buying those "no stuffed" stuffed toys -- they're supposedly indestructible -- yea right! My dogs love soft toys and fabric. They definitely tore that indestructible toy into pieces!

SO cute!! I like his name!! And if like's those Kong toys you should get him a Nylabone! Those are indestructible.

Yay! So glad you guys clicked and you have a new furry roomate!

About the name thing..I am not sure, but Oro is tricky since it is so close to "no". I call my dog about a million things other than his name so I am guessing he would be ok with a name change.

He totally looks like a Russell or Rusty to me too!

We adopted our dog, Darla, and she was a year old, and we planned on changing her name. She did know her name too well though, so we opted against it. But if he doesn't know his name, then I'd say go for it! You could also change it to something similar to Oro just in case...like Orry (Patrick Swayze's character in "North + South" - swoon) or something!

I don't think there is anything wrong with changing his name -- he is precious though!!

I've adopted dogs and changed their names...and they always responded better. It was like a new home/new name kind of thing! I think you should try it, and it's relatively easy.

For a side note, he's adorable! So presh!

He is precious! And yes, you are totally allowed to change his name! I love Russell!

He is ADORABLE!!! If he isn't really responding to his name, I think it would be alright to change it, it does seem close to "no" which I wouldn't think is a good idea. I really like Russell for him!

So happy for your new addition to the family!

XOXO

Soooo cute!!! I'd suggest the no stuffing toys, which are shaped similar to those long dogs. Our dog loooves them!

On the name thing, we got our dog when she was 8 months old, from her first owners. They called her Tink or Tinkerbell. She didn't listen to either of those names, so we decided to call her Ruca (from day 1), and now if you even say Tink, she doesn't come... Ruca's her name. So it all depends, but since he doesn't seem to listen, that might just be a name they gave him when he came in?

At most of the shelters around here, they have no history on the animals and name them as they come in. If this is Oro's case, then rename him. But if they know that's been his name for a long time, then it might not be a good idea.

He is too cute! What kind of dog is he? Glad he seems comfortable at your place!

I think Oro is really close to No. I'm not sure how old he is, but I think after a couple of weeks of calling him by his new name, whatever you chose, it'll click with him. Personally, I think he looks like a Charlie :) Frederick is cute too!

Gawsh, Chelsea, you're obviously too irresponsible to have a dog if you're considering renaming him - especially if it's to help his progress. I mean, you should've already considered this.

LMAO Of course you can change his name! We're Roxy's fourth owners so she'd already had her name changed so many times. Otherwise, I would've changed her name to Sookie. But it's YOUR dog. Enjoy him!

I want to adopt a dog once I live in a pet-friendly residence, and I've wondered the same thing about "changing" their name. I'm not much help, but I read someone else said to change it to something that is still similar to Oro.

Zoro? Oso (means bear in Spanish). Loro.

If you don't go in that direction, I like the name Frederick :D

Just catching up on blogs...
1. Your puppy = ADORABLE. Congrats:)
2. Sweet tart shots = HORRIBLE. Bad bad memories associated with them, lol.
