A large Frova please

I've struggled with migraines for a while now. Bad migraines. The kind that make me lose my vision, and throw up, and render me completely useless for hours on end.

Excederin Migraine was my saving grace. That is, until I started becoming immune to it. And over time it began to help less and less. I was a doctors dream patient. I ate well-balanced meals every few hours, I got a good amount of sleep, I stayed away from caffeine (for the most part), all that jazz that they warn you about.

However I was (and am) still getting them atleast once a month. It sucks!

So, imagine my delight when I discovered that our new insurance at work will make it possible for me to actually get the prescription for the migraine medicine, Frova, that my doc subscribed months ago!Through my last insurance, it would have cost me well over $600 to get it filled. Sure it was a 3-month, 90 pill prescription but if I'm only getting a migraine a month, that would last me well over 7 years. $600 you guys! I wish I had that kind of money lying around!

Now, it would only cost me $150.00. For those same 90 pills. But get this - my insurance would cover the other $2041.43.

Go re-read that last part again. You're telling me those tiny little white pill costs around $2200. As in two very nice all-inclusive vacations? 22 pairs of really cute shoes?! Nearly 15 pairs of jeans?! 3 mortgage payments?!

Am I the only one that finds this insane?! Regardless, I'm hoping to get it filled soon and enjoy some headache free months ahead of me.

I am glad you are able to get the medicine that you need. My husband used to suffer from migraines like the ones you are describing. He had to go to the ER every single time. Maybe this medicine would have worked?! Stupid insurance companies charging and arm and a leg. Ridiculous!

We are so much alike! Must be the Libra bond! I get terrible migraines too, where my speech is impaired as well as my vision, and I always throw up! No medicine works for me! I was getting them every few months but it has become a monthly occurrence again! I think I will look into Frova! I have never heard of it before!

Omg! I've only had one migrane in my life and it was about 3 months ago, out of nowhere. It was an experience like no other! My husband had to take me to an urgent care center! I'm glad your insurance is covering the bulk of this for you. The cost of prescriptions can be totally sickening! Btw, thanks for the the link to the shoes on the Nelson Diaries blog! I have to have those! Super cute! :)

Meds are OUTRAGEOUS. For one that we fill, it's $300 a month. EVERY month. I feel your pain, sister...

I hope the migraines go away!

I almost had a heart attack when I filled my acne prescription a few weeks ago. It cost me $160 since I have a deductible in the beginning of the year. When the guy told me one of the meds were expensive I definitely didn't expect that!

I think I need to talk to my Dr about my headaches. I am getting them too frequently. Keep us updated on this medicine!

That's insane. But I Hope it works for you. I get HORRIBLE migraines - used to be every other month or so but now monthy - and they last for days on end. Might have to check out how much of this costly drug my insurance will cover.

Isn't it sickening when you really think about how much the prescription drug industry charges? I had to get medicine for an unexpected sickness a few months ago and had to pay $250 out of pocket. I said to the pharmacist, "Is there nothing generic?" and there wasn't. I counted my blessings that I could swing the cost of the meds, but I really was wondering what people that can't afford that would do!

Since I work in insurance, I'm going to go back to Britt's comment and correct her. It's not the insurance company charging all that money; it's the pharmaceutical company. They may be in bed together, but insurance company is paying the majority of the cost here.

There are other migraine meds out there that may be cheaper. I'm sure your doc has mentioned Imitrex or Topamax before. Imitrex is taken as needed. Topamax is a daily Rx to help prevent migraines.
