Filling up the walls

Aside from taping the entire Classifieds section of the paper to my wall Sunday, I've been doing some other decorating here and there too! It's so nice to finally get some things up on the wall and knick knacks around (that aren't just things waiting to be put away!)

I got my mirror spraypainted and hung in the bathroom, as well as painting and hanging some little accent mirrors I picked up at Goodwill for $0.49 each!

I decided to spruce up my laundry area in the basement with a rug of Chris' that was just sitting there rolled up in the corner. (Hah see that blur of Russell in the corner? He loves to run hot laps around the basement!)
And don't ask me why the washer & dryer hookups are on completely separate walls. For that, I do not have an answer.

A few weekends ago my mom and I went to Exit 76 Antique Mall (if you're ever in the area, stop! It's huge and wonderful) and I found, among other things, these antique corner moldings for $5 a piece
I scooped up three and they now hang on the wall between my kitchen and downstairs bathroom!

I also hung up my masterpiece that I created at Wine and Canvas!
It now lives over my reading chair in my living room!

I can't forget about the adorable vintage scale I got at Exit 76 too! It's on my hoosier cabinet in the sitting room (that still hasn't had any work done since I last showed you hehe)

Hmm what else... oh there's my chalkboard in the kitchen! Also from an antique store. (That my mom left a note on when she dropped something off at my house while I was at work!)

Oh, and lastly. Godbless this little angel who popped over to my blog to let me know that my hopes of a fluffy rug aren't lost. (Which is a good thing, because it's really starting to grow on me!)
I plan on having a little grooming sesh with my rug this evening. (Perfect timing, considering Aly bailed on me for our dinner date we had planned tonight!)

Sitting Room sneak peak

(Sitting room photo from the original MLS listing)

My sitting room got some TLC this weekend! It was much needed... this is the room you first walk in to when coming in the side door (aka the door most commonly used from the garage or driveway, or ALL THE TIME)

So, after tearing out the ceiling in the sitting room, I figured what better time to actually get the walls painted and make that room into something more than tool storage!

This room has my favorite floors, as I showed you in this post, and I knew I wanted a yummy, buttery yellow to go with them!
I had originally chosen (swatch #1) Sherwin Williams June Day (SW6682) but it looked a little too bright  yellow whereas I wanted something deeper and warmer, so I went back to Lowe's (I always use the Valspar paint from Lowe's and have them color match to whatever shade) and the lovely gal tinted it to some random swatch I found there. Much better!

(Apologies for the dark photos, I'll try to snap some better ones today!)

Now I just need to add baseboards and a ceiling (I have big plans for the ceiling that I will share soon!!)

Anything you can do, I can do better

Elenore, my house, decided she wanted to beat herself up a bit this weekend and left me to wake up to a lovely added water feature in my *newly finished* downstairs bathroom. After a couple trips onto the roof and a GOODMORNING/HELPDAD call to my papa, I sat down and pouted.

My dad spent SO much time working on that bathroom... he just got the drywall all put up and mudded like a week ago, and then we spackled the ceiling. And then Ellie had to go and f it all up.

Apparently a gutter upstairs had separated from the house and basically water was backing up and going behind the siding and right down into the bathroom ceiling. It sucks. The paint is peeling right off the wall, taking the primer and even parts of drywall with it. Every time I go in there I want to cry.

But don't worry, I pulled a trick out of her own book later that night and tore out her ceiling in the sitting room.

If you get to tear things up, so do I Ellie, so do I.

The little things : My favorite floor

Let's take a little trip down memory lane. This is what the sitting room off the kitchen looked like when I was first handed the keys (well sorta, obvs there was no furniture once the house was mine, but the Cabbage Patch kid carpet was there in all of it's rusty orange glory!)

This is the first room you see when you come in the side door, which is basically the main entrance as it's by the garage and driveway. Clearly, the rusty orange/pale yellow theme wasn't going to be acceptable as my little house's first glimpse for all it's visitors!

A layer of carpeting and 2 layers of vinyl flooring were pulled up within that first week.We discovered these awesome hardwood floors underneath, and I fell in love with them! They are old and beat up and remind me of the flooring in Anthropologie stores!

When we had rented the sander to refinish the hardwoods upstairs my dad asked if I wanted to take it into this room, I said DON'T YOU DARE! Now if only I could stumble upon a wad of cash to make the rest of the room channel that Anthro vibe like these lovely store photos!

[I'm not exactly sure where I got these photos from, they've been in my 'inspiration' folder!]

PS Did you notice the toilet in the corner? Hate to break your heart, but no it's not staying there... it's just resting until it's bathroom is finished!
